OPEN HELD depicts a standing stone covered in intricate knotwork beneath a cloudy sky. Thick palette knife strokes give the surface a physical, sculpted presence.
Paint is layered and partially scraped back, allowing underlying tones to emerge and interact with light.
The scene feels intimate and tactile, encouraging slow, reflective viewing.

At the water's edge, Open Held presents a solitary form as a keeper of unresolved memory, standing between the shifting world of the sea and the unsettled breadth of the sky. Its pale interlacing marks suggest a language whose meaning remains just beyond translation, inviting attention without yielding a single answer. The stone's upright presence feels less like a monument to the past than a threshold between what is remembered and what is still becoming.
The surrounding darkness gives that threshold its gravity. A break in the clouds finds the patterned face while the water carries the light outward in subdued bands, as though recognition arrives briefly and cannot be held. The work's intimacy lies in this tension: something enduring appears exposed to weather, time, and change, yet continues to stand with quiet insistence.
