NARROW STILL depicts a standing stone covered in intricate knotwork beneath a cloudy sky. Thick palette knife strokes give the surface a physical, sculpted presence.
Paint is layered and partially scraped back, allowing underlying tones to emerge and interact with light.
The scene feels intimate and tactile, encouraging slow, reflective viewing.

A solitary presence holds the weather in suspension, and Narrow Still draws the eye toward a form that seems to remember more than the surrounding field can disclose. The upright stone, marked by interlaced geometric signs, stands just beyond the center of the landscape, neither monument nor mere remnant. Its dark, concentrated presence gives the open ground a point of gravity, while the clouded sky keeps the meaning unsettled.
The surrounding field does not soften that mystery so much as widen it. Warm grasses move in slanting bands beneath the pillar, suggesting wind passing through a place where no human activity is visible. Above, pale cloud masses gather against deep blue and turquoise, creating a shifting pressure between illumination and obscurity. The scene feels less like a record of a location than a pause in which landscape becomes a carrier of memory.
What the markings signify remains deliberately beyond reach, yet their circular and angular forms invite the thought of an old language whose reader has disappeared. Brightness gathers around the stone without fully revealing it, preserving a tension between witness and concealment. In that balance, the work offers solitude not as emptiness, but as an attentive state - a way of standing before what has endured without demanding that it explain itself.
