Winter Passion

The subject of equestrian sport is one of the artist's favorite. He devoted several of his paintings to it. And on all these canvases we find amazing sights of equestrian competitions as on this canvas called Race on the Snow panting where Leonid Afremov depicted winter competitions. As always, the artist used many paints for the image of the riders and the background of the picture. But since the season depicted in the picture is winter, it is natural that the artist uses many white shades. As for the image of the riders, everyone is dressed quite colorful although the outfit of 3 out of 5 is mostly white. This is understandable. Like a hunter on a winter hunt, they try to merge with the white colors of snow and slip away from their rivals. And the fact that the rider in the middle rides ahead is just another proof that this tactics works. He clearly goes into the gap leaving behind his competitors. However, those athletes that are depicted along the edges are also not far behind. Perhaps only a few meters remain until the finish line, or maybe the athletes just started the race.
