about this painting:

Cat band

The painting of Leonid Afremov with the name Musical Cats is included in the list of his famous paintings composing the series of his art works with the topic of cats, it is also included in the cycle of his paintings on a musical theme. The painting has the features typical for the artist: motley colors, the background of the picture are made in the form of smears, and, of course, the cat theme is one of the artist's favorite themes. The artist suggests that you enjoy the music of the professional jazz band dated about the beginning of the 20th century, with only one difference from the usual format - the musicians of this band are cats, the real masters, go-to guys. The time we can determine on the basis of how the musicians are dressed - the one that is on the left is dressed in a suit, classic for the early 20th century, As  well as all his clothes say that he is from this time -  bowler, vest, waistcoat, his two colleagues that are on the right from him – a violinist and a harmonist, respectively – are dressed similarly. The violinist is also dressed in a suit, with the only difference – the legs of his trouser are shortened for some reason in his paws, he holds the violin and bow, his comrade on the right is dressed in a light suit and in a light felt hat. And in his mouth we see a tobacco pipe - also an inseparable accessory of an American gentleman of the beginning of the 20th century. He sits on a stool. Finally, the forth musician is dressed in a coat and a hat, too, we see a bow on his neck. All the four musicians compose a single band – they are dressed in the same style, as we found out. But Leonid afremov tried to portray the musician so that we think that although they are professionals, they earn a little. The look like street musicians, we can conclude that from the fact that their clothes are worn, and they do not even have shoes at all. But nevertheless it is hoped that their professionalism and skills, as well as their passion for work, one day will make them rich.

Sax’s followers

As you all know jazz was born in America in the early 20th century. Since then till nowadays it constantly develops, every time we witness the origin of new styles and directions. Now only the music itself changes but the instruments also. That’s we propose you the selection of jazz instruments you mightn’t hear nothing about:

  1. Bambula - percussion musical instrument of uncertain pitch of a sound, related to the family of membrane-recorders, of African-American origin.
  2. Cabaza – percussion wooden musical instrument of indefinite pitch of sound from a family of idiophones, of Afro-Brazilian origin.
  3. Pandeira – percussion musical instrument of uncertain pitch of sound elated to the family of idiophones, of Brazilian origin.

I have read a lot lately about Mr Afremov's marketing and his business. I'm not sure how he can keep up with orders and produce paintings every day when he has a potential customer base of hundreds of millions of people worldwide. However, in saying that, I placed my order for the above painting in early March. It took about 3-4 weeks to ship (which seemed acceptable) and arrived promptly from Mexico within a few days, which seemed fast. The painting quality looks comparable with the picture online, and generally I am very satisfied with the production quality. I'm aware it is a relatively quick and easy-to-paint artwork; but overall, I'm happy and would even buy another.

I ordered "The Aura of Autumn" in December 2015. All three beautiful paintings arrived very promptly and very well packed. What you see on the web site is just a tiny piece of the beauty of Mr Afremov's art. Seeing the actual paintings is an exciting experience. Living in a country where rain is something usual I have always considered it as gloomy and even annoying until I saw these paintings which showed me the rain as a magical natural phenomenon. The only issue is that all other walls in our house felt jealous and I am afraid I will be coming for more paintings :) Thank you, Mr Afremov! My deepest respect to your talent! Olga Peycheva
