SURREAL OBELISK - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Against the dark breadth of an unsettled sky, Surreal Obelisk presents a solitary vertical presence that feels less like a monument than a threshold between states. Its height gathers the surrounding atmosphere into a single line of attention, while the scattered trees remain low and watchful at the horizon. The work’s dreamlike drama comes from this imbalance: the grounded world persists, yet something within it seems to be turning toward the unknown.

Golden illumination gathers through the obelisk’s central planes, giving the form an inward radiance rather than a fixed, declarative meaning. It may suggest revelation, memory, or the fragile instant when an ordinary landscape becomes charged with significance. Around it, fine branching lines cross the darker sky like routes that converge without explaining where they lead.

The scene resists becoming a story with a final destination. Its reflective bands of earth and water hold the lower edge in suspension, while the deep blues and violet expanses allow the central figure to remain both commanding and elusive. What endures is a sense of passage - not an escape from the world, but a moment in which the world seems briefly open to another order of possibility.
