LOST FLIGHT - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Against a field of converging color, Lost Flight considers freedom as a force that demands movement rather than offering escape. The bird crosses the image with its wings fully extended, caught between the surrounding darkness and the yellow-white opening behind it. Its direction feels decisive, yet the radiance gives that motion an edge of uncertainty, as though departure and arrival have briefly become the same act.

The central glow does not simply illuminate the bird; it creates a threshold the figure seems to pass through without leaving anything behind. Deep blues and violets gather around the perimeter, while warmer notes flare outward from the center, making the surrounding space feel charged and expansive. The work holds exhilaration and risk together, refusing to reduce flight to either triumph or loss.

A small white mark near the lower-right edge quietly interrupts the larger surge, introducing a trace of stillness within the image’s momentum. That pause gives the bird’s passage a more inward resonance: not a story of where it has come from, but a moment in which instinct, release, and uncertainty remain suspended in the same radiant field.
