about this painting:

Urban beauty

The theme of night cities can be rightfully considered central in Leonid Afremov works. Thrilled by the colorful play of city lights, he often depicts urban views at a late rainy hour when there is nothing separating you from the beauty of the surrounding world. Take a quiet walk along this sparkling street, breathe in the fresh air of the Mediterranean and let it take your troubles away while you are admiring the scenery. Revived by the power of modern art, the rain-soaked Gibraltar unfolds before your eyes inviting you to examine its vibrant colors and sophisticated shapes.

Charming Gibraltar

This fascinating contemporary painting by Leonid Afremov takes us to one of the most beautiful and mysterious regions of Southern Europe – Gibraltar. Few of us have heard about its amazing nature and turbulent history. Covered with magnificent mountains and opulent forests, this picturesque peninsula has guarded the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea since the foundation of the first settlement on its rocky shores. Here are some little-known facts about Gibraltar that you might find interesting:

  • Gibraltar is a British territory although it used to be part of Spain in the past.
  • It witnessed many important ship battles and served as a key base for the British Royal Navy.
  • The highest mountain on the peninsula is the Rock of Gibraltar that rises 1,400 feet above the ground.
  • One of the greatest tourist attractions of Gibraltar is St. Michael’s Cave with its beautiful formations and underground lake.
  • Gibraltar has a diverse national culture comprising British, Spanish and Genoese influences.
  • It is the only place in Europe where you can see a unique ape breed called Barbary macaque.
  • John Lennon and Yoko Ono got married in Gibraltar.

Colors of night

To capture the vibrancy of Gibraltar where different cultures and lifestyles sound together as one magnificent symphony, Leonid Afremov used a rich palette of shades and quick splashy strokes. The street glares brightly and proudly, basking in its own splendor. Soaked in the downpour, the road and the sidewalk shine in long stripes of orange, blue and violet merging beautifully on the wet asphalt. A trio of tall lanterns spreads heavy red glow setting the by-standing trees on fire. Looming in the distance, a big neon-lit building displays the bright colors of its shop windows trying to lure a lonely by-passer inside. The inky night sky hangs low over the city threatening to swallow it any second. This vigorous contrast between the glowing shades of red and orange and the cold eerie tints of blue and violet accentuated by strokes of deep black makes the scene very vivid and expressive. You can imagine yourself standing in the corner under the shelter of your umbrella and gazing around in delight. This canvas can be yours! Make your apartment stylish and cozy by decorating it with modern art paintings by Leonid Afremov!

We just received our 45th painting from our favorite master. The Sun of Sicily is amazing! Glorious colors, lots of depth and texture, so vibrant and full of life! It is a perfect complement to our collection. The way Leonid captures the light, sun, Sky, architecture, and spirit of the Mediterenean is simply breathtaking. Every room in our house welcomes us with color and joy. Material things rarely make me happy, but these masterpieces absolutely do. Each is transporting and inspiring. Pure joy. Do yours of a favor and buy a few. All our friends are now collectors. It's addictive! Many thanks to the entire Afremov family. Top-notch customer service. You simply can't go wrong and the smallest issue is immediately addressed to ensure your full satisfaction. None better! Dr Lani Kass

I randomly found Mr. Afremov's art while searching around Deviantart. Ever since I first laid eyes upon the bright colors and breathtaking paintings I have found myself obsessed. My searching led me to his personal website. I followed him on facebook for some time too before making a purchase. It all seemed too good to believe. I placed my order, purchasing "Night of Expectations" and "On the Way to Morning". I was overcome with such excitement and eagerly waited until I got the email confirming that they had been shipped. When they finally reached my home I eagerly opened the package and literally sat in front of my treasured paintings and just took in every detail for probably 20 minutes. I was so eager to get them hanging on my wall. They look fabulous! I keep eyeing the site and checking out the deals. I am positive that this will not be my last purchase! Thank you for providing the world with such wonderful and inspirational art! Thank you for making it very affordable as well!

I'm a retired jazz trombonist. The essence of jazz is improvisation. Improvisation is the ability to look at a thing from a different perspective each time you look at it. That is what the pallet knife wielding Mr. Leonid Afremov does with his recreations. I have the pleasure of waking each morning and looking up the rain swept street of "The Loneliness of Autumn" and wondering where my road may take each day. I wasn't prepared for the blaze of color or the depth of feeling when I tore the boxing open at delivery even though I had looked at the painting on the internet dozens of times before purchasing. It was like seeing and hearing Louis Armstrong in person for the first time after just listening to him on recordings. Some times it even awakens the urge to pick up my horn and blow a few choruses straight at the painting expecting it to blow a chorus or two back at me. The man is a magician.
