SILENT OBELISK - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

At the edge of an unknowable passage, Silent Obelisk holds its ground beneath a sky that seems to open rather than merely darken. Its height gives the surrounding stillness a measure, while the radiant circle beyond it suggests a presence that is distant yet insistently near. The work turns solitude into a form of attention, asking what can remain steady when the world is charged with signs.

The obelisk’s broken illumination, shifting from cool blues toward ember-like warmth, makes it feel less like a monument to certainty than a record of endurance. Across the far shoreline, small lights gather without forming a clear destination. They offer companionship at a remove - enough to prevent the scene from becoming empty, not enough to resolve its mystery.

Near the waterline, a slight human presence intensifies the scale of the encounter. The figure does not explain the landscape; it seems to stand within the same suspended interval as the viewer, caught between departure and return. Warm traces extending across the lower expanse carry the celestial glow downward, turning the scene into a meditation on how distant forces can alter the meaning of one’s immediate surroundings.
