OPEN BALANCE - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Across a charged field of divided horizons, Open Balance turns the dune into a gathering of presences rather than a fixed landscape. Four elongated forms hold the middle ground, their distinct colors and dark contours suggesting figures caught between arrival and departure. The work feels less concerned with depicting terrain than with testing how bodies endure within an unstable world.

The row does not settle into uniformity. Each form leans, narrows, or overlaps in its own manner, creating a shared balance that remains visibly provisional. Their closeness implies association, yet the gaps between them preserve a sense of solitude. Together they seem to occupy a moment before movement, when direction has not been chosen.

Behind them, saturated fields divide the atmosphere into abrupt zones of magenta, yellow, and pale blue-gray. This heightened setting gives the central figures an almost emblematic force, while the dark horizontal band beneath them introduces a boundary that could be ground, threshold, or shadow. The ambiguity keeps the scene open to changing emotional readings.

Bright passages of orange, red, and yellow press through the darker forms like flashes of vitality within restraint. What first appears dramatic gradually becomes more inward: a meditation on how people maintain equilibrium while standing beside difference, uncertainty, and one another. The painting leaves that balance active rather than resolved, held in suspension across its vivid, divided field.
