OLD ST. PETERSBURG - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

OLD ST. PETERSBURG — A vibrant canal-side cityscape unfolds in saturated blues, fiery oranges, and luminous golds. The scene balances urban architecture with autumnal foliage and shimmering water, creating a dramatic impression of a historic waterfront at evening.

Multi-story buildings line the far bank, their many rectangular windows punctuated by warm lights. Slender trees form a glowing band of yellow and orange beside the canal, while deep blue and violet shadows intensify the atmosphere. Across the lower half, elongated reflections ripple through the water in cobalt, white, red, ochre, and amber. Broad, broken strokes give the architecture, foliage, lamps, and reflections an expressive, impasto-like energy, while the receding embankment guides the eye toward the center of the view.

Its wide horizontal format suits a living room, study, hallway, or hospitality setting where a strong architectural focal point can anchor the wall. The complementary blue-and-orange palette brings warmth and contrast to contemporary interiors, while the reflective water and illuminated facades add visual movement. Appealing to collectors of urban landscapes and colorful city scenes, it offers a lively interpretation of waterfront atmosphere without losing the recognizable structure of buildings, trees, and canal.
