about this painting:
Evening River St. Petersburg
City on the Neva
St. Petersburg has many nicknames. The city is called Northern Venice or simply the northern capital of Russia. And indeed, for several centuries the city has been the capital of the Russian state and ceased to be it only at the beginning of the 20th century with the coming to power of the Bolsheviks and the formation of the Soviet state. The atmosphere of the city always attracts talented people among whom there were many creative personalities. Of course, Leonid Afremov was very interested in creating cityscape with the image of this city. Here is what attracts many to the city:
- the mysterious atmosphere that is created by nature itself. The fact is that the city is located on the sea, which affects its climate. Thus, cold and rainy autumn is often followed by the same cold and dank winter. In the summer, Petersburgers also often see rains. It is not surprising that such weather generates a huge number of works of art, which include paintings.
- Petersburgers are very reverent about their history, considering their city as the cultural capital of Russia. The city hosts a huge number of cultural events, which attract the attention of tourists from all over the world. So this city, like any other, has its own unique flavor.
We have already said that the city is called Northern Venice. And indeed, if you at least take a little walk around it, you will surely find some small rivulet or Neva, which is also called the artery of the city. In his painting, the artist Leonid Afremov depicted the reflection of the evening city in the water. The landscape really resembles Venetia. As always, the artist used many colors to represent the city. So St. Petersburg ceases to be cloudy and rainy for us and becomes colorful and vibrant. The picture is filled with even more colors due to the reflection of street lamps in the water. Light waves seem to scatter color across the water surface. There is another feature in the painting that reminds us of Venice. This is of course the white yachts standing at the pier. Although they, too, turned orange due to the reflection of lanterns. Thus, everything in the painting became very warm.
Feel all the warmth of colors in the Petersburg cityscape art by Leonid Afremov.
