HOLLOW FOUNTAIN - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

At the edge of nocturnal stillness, Hollow Fountain turns the act of looking into a meditation on emergence. Its rising water suggests a brief insistence against the surrounding darkness, while the basin below holds that upward impulse in suspension. The work feels less like a scene to enter than a moment of inward attention, where illumination appears fragile but persistent.

Warm lights gather around the pool like traces of human presence without revealing any particular story. Their glow meets the cooler reflections below, creating a tension between what is offered openly and what remains submerged. The fountain’s centered form gives this meeting a ceremonial gravity, though its meaning stays fluid - it may evoke renewal, remembrance, or the simple relief of finding brightness where little seemed available.

The tall column of water gives the composition a vertical rhythm, yet the broken reflections keep it from becoming fixed or monumental. Everything seems held between release and return: the upward motion dissolves into air, then reappears in the darkened pool as scattered color. In that suspended exchange, the work finds its serenity not in stillness, but in the continual reshaping of light.
