ENDLESS MIRROR - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Across a threshold between shadow and illumination, Endless Mirror considers how identity changes when it is held among others. The hooded figures stand in measured relation, distinct in their surrounding hues yet joined by the same reserved posture. Their anonymity feels less like concealment than a shared pause, as though each presence is listening for a direction that has not arrived.

The central band of figures creates a fragile boundary between two emotional climates. Cooler radiance gathers toward one side while a more urgent warmth rises toward the other, allowing the row to feel suspended between withdrawal and encounter. No single figure resolves that tension; the group becomes a passage through uncertainty, where difference remains visible without breaking the quiet cohesion.

Below, the reflections lengthen and lose their certainty, turning recognition into something fluid. The downward forms suggest memory, but memory altered by distance - familiar outlines made unstable as they pass beyond immediate view. What appears orderly above becomes more inward below, giving the work its mysterious gravity and leaving the figures poised between presence and disappearance.
