DREAMING OBELISK - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between storm-dark distance and awakening light, Dreaming Obelisk holds the feeling of a passage not yet completed. Its narrow, rising presence seems less like a monument than a thought taking shape at the edge of consciousness, suspended between the tangible world and something more elusive. The surrounding darkness gives its ascent a private intensity, while the radiance gathered behind it suggests emergence rather than arrival.

The work’s drama comes from the tension between vertical stillness and the restless breadth around it. A concentrated flare of gold and orange gathers at the obelisk’s base and sides, as if illumination were breaking through a dense inner weather. Beneath this, the reflective bands extend the moment downward, making the light feel remembered as much as witnessed.

Yet the image resists a single reading. The pointed form may evoke aspiration, solitude, or the fragile clarity of a dream before it dissolves. Cool blues and violets press in from the surrounding sky, giving the central glow a sense of earned, temporary presence. What remains is an atmosphere of suspended transformation - a world paused precisely where uncertainty begins to become vision.
