A sense of suspended motion gives Calm Object its distinctive charge, turning a skateboard into a study of balance, release, and inward composure. Its diagonal course seems to hold movement just before it gathers speed, while the surrounding bursts of color keep that stillness from becoming passive. The work feels playful without losing its poise, as though energy has found a momentary form it can inhabit.
The skateboard’s broad deck carries a lively succession of turquoise, pink, yellow, orange, and blue, suggesting not a single mood but the quick changes that accompany momentum. Against the pale ground, its dark cast shadow introduces a second rhythm - a reminder that movement is registered not only by what advances, but also by what trails behind. The contrast gives the image a subtle psychological tension.
Seen this way, the work is less about sport than about the balance between freedom and control. The wheels remain ready for departure, yet the composition holds them in a suspended interval where direction is felt more strongly than destination. That interval allows its exuberance to settle into something contemplative, preserving the bright insistence of play while hinting at the discipline that makes motion possible.
