BOOK HIDING - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

BOOK HIDING — A vivid outdoor scene centers on a figure absorbed in an open book, its pale pages and reddish-brown covers held directly before the face. The concealed features create a playful sense of mystery, inviting attention to the act of reading while keeping the subject’s identity visually undefined. Bright color and energetic mark-making give the composition an immediate, lively presence.

The figure stands in the lower center, wearing a light-colored shirt and dark trousers, with both hands gripping the book’s lower sides. A large tree rises along the right side, its trunk and branches built from dark, multicolored strokes. Dense foliage fills the upper background, while the ground carries a mosaic of red, orange, yellow, cream, teal, blue, green, brown, and black. Thick, highly visible strokes and broken color create richly textured surfaces throughout the pages, clothing, leaves, and earth.

With its strong central gesture and face-obscuring book, this piece brings a distinctive focal point to reading nooks, libraries, studies, and creative spaces. The bright, impressionistic surface adds warmth and movement, while the tree and open landscape suggest a moment of quiet absorption outdoors. It offers a spirited balance of recognizable subject matter, expressive texture, and visual intrigue.
