BALCONY BACK - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

BALCONY BACK — A solitary figure pauses at a balcony railing, seen from behind as warm light gathers across the view. The scene balances quiet reflection with a vivid, dramatic atmosphere.

Short dark hair and a dark coat with broad reddish-orange accents define the central figure, while a red scarf or collar adds a focused note of color. Fiery orange, coral red, rust, deep brown, black, violet-gray, teal blue, and white highlights build a richly contrasted palette. Expressive, directional brushwork gives the painting a tactile impasto-like surface, with individual strokes shaping the layered background. Horizontal and diagonal railing lines cross the lower portion, leading toward bright vertical and horizontal reflections below. Darker blue-gray forms temper the glow on the right, while strong illumination from the left and upper background creates reflective areas and pronounced shadows.

Its contemplative, warm, and solitary mood suits spaces intended for thoughtful pauses. The back-turned pose invites viewers to share the figure’s viewpoint, while the orange-red glow and energetic surface add visual warmth and movement. Display it where the contrast between luminous color, architectural railing lines, and deep shadow can become a dramatic focal point.
