ZEN RIVER STONES - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Gathered into a close, inward rhythm, Zen River Stones turns the familiar language of collected stones toward contemplation, where each rounded form seems to hold its own measure of time. Their varied markings resist a single reading: spirals suggest return, branching lines imply quiet growth, and the repeated patterns invite the eye to linger without demanding resolution. The arrangement feels less like a landscape than a small field of distinct presences sharing an unspoken balance.

The stones press closely against one another, yet their identities remain vivid. A black form marked by pale spirals carries the steadiness of a repeated thought, while the blue and gold forms introduce something more searching, as though paths were crossing beneath the calm. The cropped edges make the gathering feel larger than the image, an incomplete circle whose boundaries continue beyond sight.

There is a gentle tension between order and inward drift. Grids, cells, loops, and leaf-like tracery create a private vocabulary across the forms, but no symbol settles into a fixed meaning. Instead, the work offers a moment of sustained attention - a place where difference is not arranged away, and stillness becomes a way of noticing how separate things can belong together.
