WOMAN AND BUTTERFLIES - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

A suspended encounter with freedom and attention, Woman and Butterflies follows the inward lift of a figure who seems to have stepped beyond ordinary time. Her upward gaze and raised arm suggest not possession, but a moment of recognition - as though the surrounding movement has drawn her into a larger, more delicate rhythm.

The butterflies gather without forming a single direction, leaving the woman poised between stillness and transformation. Their varied colors lend the scene a shifting emotional register: some feel intimate and near, while others recede into the blue-green atmosphere like thoughts that cannot be held for long.

A branching form rises beside her, giving her gesture a point of relation without turning it into a fixed symbol. It may be a tree, a threshold, or simply the quiet structure against which her openness becomes visible. The flowing dress reinforces this sense of release, carrying the figure outward even as she remains grounded.

There is serenity here, but not passivity. The woman’s turned profile and extended arm hold the instant just before contact, when wonder is still uncertain and therefore alive. Light gathers around her face and the nearby wings, making the scene feel less like an escape from the world than a brief change in how the world is perceived.
