WITCHS FAMILIAR CIRCLE - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

At the heart of this nocturnal gathering, Witchs Familiar Circle turns a forest clearing into a place of shared attention. The animals do not appear to be passing through; their inward-facing forms suggest a pause governed by something older than ordinary movement. Beneath the cool hush of the trees, the illuminated circle carries the weight of a meeting whose meaning remains deliberately just beyond reach.

The arrangement feels ceremonial without becoming solemn. Two owls keep watch from beyond the design, while the fox- or cat-like figures gather close to its edge, their differing appearances held together by the same act of looking. The dark figure seen from behind gives the scene an intimate point of entry, as though the viewer has arrived at the threshold of an observance already underway.

Warm light emerging from the ground and the surrounding undergrowth interrupts the blue night with a sense of guarded possibility. The interlocking lines at the center may suggest a language, a boundary, or a pact, but the work resists reducing them to a single explanation. Its enchantment lies in that interval between recognition and uncertainty.

What binds the group is not overt action but concentration. The reddish and pale figures, the watchful owls, and the shadowed forest all seem suspended in the same attentive silence, making the clearing feel less like a wilderness than a temporary realm with its own rules. Nothing announces what will happen next; the circle simply holds the gathered presence in place.
