WINTER MOVEMENT - oil painting on canvas by Leonid Afremov

WINTER MOVEMENT — A vivid interpretation of winter woodland, WINTER MOVEMENT draws the eye into a luminous forest alive with color, texture, and quiet energy. Deep greens and cool blues surround a radiant center where golden yellow, orange, and scarlet accents suggest light filtering through dense foliage.

Dark, slender trunks rise and intersect with fine diagonal branches, creating a dynamic network across the composition. Angular patches of teal, cobalt, violet, red, and warm ochre build the layered canopy in expressive, directional strokes. Small white flower-like forms punctuate the lower central area, while broad horizontal marks in pale blue, white, yellow, purple, and deep blue form a reflective ground that evokes wet earth or snow. A compact dark vertical form with an ochre top adds a subtle point of focus near the lower right.

With its vertical structure and strong central glow, this colorful forest scene brings depth and movement to living rooms, reading spaces, bedrooms, or creative studios. It suits interiors that welcome energetic color balanced by cool, atmospheric tones. The contrast between shadowed trunks, luminous foliage, and the pale reflective foreground creates a contemplative focal point—vivid at first glance, yet rewarding closer attention through its layered marks and shifting visual rhythm.
