WIDE DISTANCE - FRAMED

Across its open horizon, Wide Distance holds the mind between arrival and departure, where the shoreline offers a point of contact without closing off the view. The broad division between sky and sea gives the scene an unusual steadiness, while the distant dark line keeps the farthest reach just beyond certainty. It feels less like a destination than a measure of how much space attention can contain.

The repeated white edges of the waves draw time into the image without making it feel hurried. Each break arrives, recedes, and leaves the horizon intact, creating a rhythm that is calming but not entirely passive. The sea becomes a place where distance is continually renewed rather than crossed.

Closer to the shore, blue water gives way to sand in warm ochre and brown, bringing the expansive view back toward the body and the immediate world. This meeting of cool depth and sunlit ground suggests a threshold - not a border between two fixed realms, but a shifting passage between inward stillness and outward release.

Above it all, scattered clouds interrupt the clear blue without disturbing its openness. Their presence lends the sky a passing quality, as though the scene is held in a moment that will alter slowly while the horizon remains. The painting leaves that tension unresolved, allowing serenity to include the faint pull of elsewhere.
