about this painting:
Under the Arch of Autumn
The autumn shadow
In each canvas by Leonid Afremov, especially in the famous ones as this one, on the autumn theme we find more and more colors that so much differs the paintings. Thus, in this work we see a lot of brown – this is primarily the color of tree trunks located along the road. Let's try to speculate a little over the location of this place. Firstly, it can be a park as the road reminds a park alley framed by an even line of sprawling crowns on the thick trunks. Secondly, it can be a country road leading to favorite places of citizens who like to relax on the nature. Judging from the fact that on the left we see quite a lot of sunlight that seeps through the trunks behind the trees there is a field yellowed with the advent of autumn. By the way, the color of foliage on trees is also unusual – here we can also find quite a lot of brown shades. And they are all very well in harmony with the color of the alley. The foliage on the trees is still so thick that the impression of a tunnel is created. That is why the painting itself is called Under the Arch of Autumn.
The most umbrageous trees
We see that our alley is wrapped up in dense shadows even at such an autumnal time. If you have your own house, then you may have a garden in which you want to create as much shadow as possible under which you can hide even on the hottest days. What trees can be planted for this? Here are some recommendations:
- Northern Red Oak – a wide-stem tree which prefers classic moist, well-drained, acidic soils.
- Maple–hybrid maple with falling orange-red leaves. It prefers bright sun and moist, well-drained soil with a neutral pH. The ‘Autumn Blaze’ variety is growing very fast. It reaches 15-18 meters, with a wide oval crown 12-15 meters wide.
- Gray Elm – Vase shapes with upright rich, dark green leaves that turn bronze-maroon in the fall. It prefers bright sun or partial shade, but adapts to different soils. It fares well wind, pollution and drought that makes it suitable for the city street.
Looking at this avenue stretching into the foggy distance you might feel the smell of autumn and the warmest memories associated with this most beautiful time in nature come to light.
