At the edge of a season, The Vineyard in Winter turns a familiar rural route into a meditation on pause, departure, and return. The pale path draws forward between receding rows, while the waiting bicycle gives that direction a human measure without telling us who has left it there. Its stillness feels less like abandonment than a moment held open.
The vineyard carries the ambiguity of late growth: warm remnants remain among the rows, yet the distant hills and cool sky belong to a quieter register. A few low buildings sit beyond the cultivated ground, suggesting habitation without breaking the work’s sense of spacious withdrawal.
