TENDER UNFOLDING depicts a standing stone covered in intricate knotwork beneath a cloudy sky. Thick palette knife strokes give the surface a physical, sculpted presence.
Paint is layered and partially scraped back, allowing underlying tones to emerge and interact with light.

Against an open sky, Tender Unfolding presents an upright stone as a keeper of meanings that resist immediate translation. Its interlaced face, gathered around a central spiral, feels less like an inscription to be deciphered than a pattern of return - memory circling inward while the surrounding field remains spacious and still.
The stone’s asymmetrical silhouette gives this presence a human gravity without turning it into a figure. It may suggest an old threshold, though no passage is shown; the possibility rests in its endurance, standing between the low grassland and the immense drift of cloud.
Light reaches the carved front while the right side recedes into shadow, creating a tension between what can be read and what remains withheld. That division gives the monument its mystery, as if understanding depends not on solving the pattern but on accepting its partialness.
Above it, pink and cream clouds soften the severity of the dark form without diminishing it. The scene holds serenity and unease together: a solitary mark of continuity beneath a changing sky, inviting attention to the quiet pressure of things that outlast the moment in which they are encountered.
