TANGO OF PAST YEARS - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

TANGO OF PAST YEARS — A charged encounter unfolds in vivid, tactile color. Two figures meet in an intimate kiss, their bodies and gestures merging with a turbulent field of expressive marks. The scene feels both romantic and theatrical, capturing a fleeting moment with striking emotional force.

The tightly cropped vertical composition places the embracing pair at its center, with their faces touching near the upper middle. One figure’s pale arm curves upward around the other’s neck, creating a strong arc through the composition. Overlapping bodies descend into broad, angular strokes, while a darker figure-like form on the right introduces visual counterweight. Fiery orange, red, golden yellow, cream, deep blue, teal, violet, black, and white move across the surface in contrasting passages. Thick, impasto-like brushwork and palette-knife-style marks break the forms into energetic fragments, balancing recognizable human gestures with vivid abstraction.

Its intimate subject and dynamic color make it a compelling focal point for spaces that welcome expressive, emotionally resonant art. The concentrated vertical format suits a prominent wall position, while the layered marks invite closer viewing and reveal shifting relationships between figure, gesture, and surrounding color. A strong choice for collectors drawn to romantic imagery, dramatic compositions, and contemporary figurative energy.
