Set against a sun-warmed field of ochre, Surfboard Parade turns a familiar sign of motion into a study of collective pause. The upright forms gather closely, sharing a narrow horizon while retaining distinct visual identities. Their nearness suggests a group awaiting departure, though the work leaves that moment suspended - poised between preparation and freedom, ceremony and impulse.
The central sequence of chevron-like color gives the arrangement a pulse, as if energy were passing from one board to the next. Yet the repetition is never obedient: each pattern breaks the rhythm in its own way, proposing that belonging need not erase difference. The result feels less like a procession toward a destination than a temporary alliance shaped by sun, weather, and expectation.
A strong dark line on the yellow-and-red board introduces a note of direction within the otherwise buoyant gathering. It can read as a seam between present stillness and imagined movement, a reminder that the sea is felt here more as possibility than scenery. Warmth and tension remain together, giving the work its lively, anticipatory character.
