STREET OF PAPER AIRPLANES - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between darkened façades and gathering blue, Street of Paper Airplanes turns an ordinary residential street into a passage where private wishes seem to have escaped into the open air. The suspended forms do not feel triumphant; they carry a delicate sense of departure, as though each has been released without certainty of where it will land.

The street’s strong recession draws these fragments toward a distant point, giving the scene the inward pull of a memory or an unfinished message. Warm windows and a single streetlamp offer signs of human presence, yet no figure appears to claim the moment. That absence leaves the airplanes suspended between playfulness and longing.

Below, the wet roadway repeats the drifting shapes and scattered lights, making the sky’s small fleet seem to continue beneath the city. The reflection unsettles the boundary between what has been sent outward and what remains close at hand, as if hope could return in altered form.

Bare branches and close-set buildings hold the scene in a hushed enclosure, while the orange airplanes remain the only clear sign of motion. Their vivid presence against the cool evening suggests a fragile insistence: even in a familiar street, the imagination can redraw the direction of travel.
