STONES OF MEMORY - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Arranged like a compact archive, Stones of Memory turns repeated forms into a meditation on how remembrance is ordered, kept, and altered. The tightly gathered pieces suggest fragments of a language whose grammar has survived while its original speaker has disappeared. Their differences matter, yet their closeness gives the work a sense of shared inheritance rather than isolated relics.

Spirals, nested curves, stepped shapes, and simplified faces recur across the arrangement like partial phrases passed from one generation to the next. None resolves into a single message. Instead, the patterns hover between inscription and ornament, inviting the feeling that meaning can endure even when its circumstances have been forgotten.

The dark intervals between the forms deepen this impression of a recovered record. A rust-colored block beside a pale geometric fragment, or a muted green piece near an amber one, feels less like a decorative distinction than a variation in age, origin, or emphasis. Together they create a dense, inward world where memory is collective but never uniform.

Worn edges and occasional chips keep that imagined archive from becoming pristine. They imply contact, handling, and time without naming a particular history. The work remains suspended between artifact and invention, allowing its coded forms to feel both discovered and newly encountered - familiar enough to stir recognition, yet too unresolved to settle into certainty.
