STILL OPEN depicts a suburban street at night lit by flickering streetlights and an uneasy glow. Thick palette knife strokes give the surface a physical, sculpted presence.
Paint is layered and partially scraped back, allowing underlying tones to emerge and interact with light.
The scene feels intimate and tactile, encouraging slow, reflective viewing.

Night gathers with unusual intimacy in Still Open, where the residential street becomes a passage between shelter and uncertainty. Its broad roadway leads toward a concentrated brightness, yet the destination remains indistinct, as though the way forward belongs to a moment not fully understood. The scene holds the suspended feeling of returning late, when familiar surroundings have lost their daytime assurances.
Warm windows and streetlights appear within the surrounding blue darkness, offering signs of human presence without opening the lives behind them. Their glow does not dispel the solitude; instead, it makes absence more perceptible. The houses seem close enough to know, yet distant enough to preserve the inwardness of the hour.
Across the wet road, reflected light stretches toward the viewer in broken amber and pale yellow passages. These reflections turn the street into a record of what has already passed overhead, giving the scene a sense of time moving quietly beneath its stillness. The roadway feels less like a destination than a temporary state of mind.
Utility lines and dark trees interrupt the open sky, drawing attention to the fragile structures that organize this otherwise uncertain space. Nothing announces a crisis, but neither does the night settle into complete calm. Still Open remains poised between departure and return, holding its meaning in that unresolved interval.
