about this painting:
Spring’s Smiles
The flower still life
The beautiful bouquet depicted in the painting of Leonid Afremov strikes with its bright spring colors. For one of his most famous spring paintings the artist chose perhaps the most successful name – Spring’s Smiles. And indeed, the flowers seem to smile at us through their colorful petals. In the vase, we see a whole variety of magnificent spring flowers – delicate heads with white, light and dark blue, burgundy and purple petals stick out of the bouquet. There are so many of them that they do not even fit in a vase – next to it we see the fallen burgundy petals. The colors chosen by the artist for the background of the painting are also characterized by brightness and dynamism – these are such shades as pink, red, orange, yellow and such pastel colors as purple, turquoise, blue, Azure and others.
The first swallows
How impatiently we all are waiting for spring, rejoice at the first warm rays of the sun, the first thaws and streams. But the first spring flowers cause special delight. Their appearance indicates that spring has come finally and irrevocably. Let’s name the very first spring flowers:
- Snowdrop. The French call this gentle touching flower a snow bell, the British call it a snow drop. After all, this is the very first spring flower. Snowdrifts still lie around but this brave little one is already blossoming during the first thaws. There is a legend that the goddess Flora, handing out her outfits for the spring carnival to flowers, presented the snowdrop snow-white ones.
- It blooms when it is still cold. In native places (in the Caucasus), it blooms in winter (late February). The hellebore is sometimes called the “rose of Christ” – the first flower is known to be found near the barn where Christ was born.
- Crocuses are the favorite flowers of city gardeners and landscapers. Their blossoming means that spring has come. The ancient Greeks considered them the flowers of the goddess of the morning dawn of Aurora, the flower of awakening nature.
Enjoy the spring splendor with the painting of Leonid Afremov and let these flowers create spring mood in your home at any time of the year.
