SPIRIT OF THE NORTH

Against a field of restless winter movement, Spirit of the North presents the wolf as a figure of alertness and belonging, poised between the known world and a harsher, more elemental realm. Its raised head and parted mouth suggest not aggression alone, but a call carried into weather - an utterance answered by the surrounding blue.

The wolf’s diagonal presence gives the work a sense of forward momentum, yet its gaze remains directed beyond the visible scene. This tension makes the animal feel less like a solitary emblem than a participant in a larger rhythm, listening for signs within the cold.

The surrounding whites and pale blues create an atmosphere where distance seems to dissolve. Broad currents of snow or wind gather around the figure without enclosing it, allowing the landscape to read as both obstacle and companion. The small dark eye becomes a point of concentration within that shifting expanse.

There is drama in the animal’s restraint: it occupies the foreground with unmistakable strength, while the open space around it preserves its freedom. The work leaves the wolf suspended in a moment of recognition, as though the wilderness has become briefly articulate and the creature is answering in kind.
