SPELLBOOK OF RAIN - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

At the heart of this work, knowledge appears less like an archive than a weather system, charged with forces that cannot remain contained. Spellbook of Rain opens onto that threshold, where reading becomes an encounter with the unknown and the page seems to summon a world beyond language. The open volume rests in darkness, yet its presence is not passive; it gathers light and releases it upward, as if meaning were still forming.

The central plume gives the image its sense of ascent, while the surrounding blue-black atmosphere keeps that revelation uncertain. Thin white branches reach through the upper space like thoughts extending beyond their origin, refusing to settle into a single explanation. The work suggests a moment when intuition, memory, and imagination briefly move together before separating again.

A golden edge along the pages introduces something earthly and time-worn into the vision. It hints at a book that has been handled, kept, or waited upon, though no particular story is imposed. Around it, scattered flecks of yellow interrupt the cool darkness with small signs of awakening, making the scene feel less like a spell completed than an invocation still gathering strength.

The reflected light below carries the book's mystery outward, transforming a private act of reading into something atmospheric and expansive. What rises from the pages may be rain, language, or the mind's own weather - a presence that cannot be held still long enough to name. Its drama lies in that unsettled passage between the familiar object and the impossible event.
