SPANISH SUNFIELDS - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

At the edge of day, Spanish Sunfields turns a cultivated landscape into a passage between radiance and retreat. The furrows draw steadily toward the central horizon, where the land seems to gather its last warmth before yielding to shadow. Rather than presenting sunset as an ending, the work gives it the feeling of a threshold - a moment when distance becomes newly charged and familiar ground takes on another measure of time.

The solitary rounded tree, held in dark relief against the glowing sky, introduces a human scale without suggesting a fixed story. It may belong to a remembered route, a place of waiting, or simply the enduring presence of something that does not need to move in order to witness change. Beyond it, the low mountain range keeps the horizon open while also setting a quiet limit to the field’s forward pull.

Across the sky, coral, orange, crimson, and violet gather in broad bands of atmosphere, while narrow golden reflections return through the furrows below. That correspondence makes the land feel briefly illuminated from within, yet the deepened shadows preserve an element of uncertainty. The scene rests in a poised interval: expansive but contained, serene without becoming still, and vivid enough to make departure feel almost tangible.
