I would like to present my hand painted oil on canvas painting (recreation) of the artwork SICILY — HARBOR OF SYRACUSE . about this painting:

Italian dream

Sicily, one of the biggest islands in the Mediterranean Sea, can boast a rich history and fantastic seascapes. The island is also called ‘sweet espresso’ by virtue of its charm, fascination and passionate character. The Harbor of Syracuse depicted by Leonid Afremov is an obvious incarnation of all these qualities and a picturesque spot to create such marvelous pieces of oil art! Warm and deep colors, refined assembly of tones and accents, tender images and calming ambience of the picture will make you feel the hearbeat of this beautiful Italian city!

Harbor at sunset

  • A nice harbor located near the city of Syracuse froze motionless in sunset light.
  • Yachts at rest usher out yet another eventful day.
  • The dock is desolate.
  • Silence and marvelous sunset are the only things that exist at this very moment.
  • A dreamy breathless evening is sinking on the still water of the harbor.
  • In the background, faint shapes of the city and faraway solitary lights are visible.
  • The whole beauty of sunset palette is reflected in the water mirror.

Things to notice

The color range of the picture has a dual character: it combines warm and cold tones creating an easy-to-see contrast. Freshness and shadows of the night are warmed and illuminated by golden sunlight. The smooth horizontals stroke marks on the canvas are like multicolored sky waves creating an illusion of total calm and relax.

The reflection we see in the water is a separate topic worthy of note. In the lower part of the oil painting, you may observe only warm colors of sunset. The gloomy tones of the night disappear. Thanks to this effect, golden, yellow, orange and reddish paints create a romantic, warm, soft and very tender feel. The image of the water (being a symbol of memory and past) tells us that there is no place for grievous and painful memories. We are free to choose what to remember and to reflect in the harbor of our life. Take cues from this marvelous canvas and keep inspiration close at hand by adding it to your home décor!

We just received our 45th painting from our favorite master. The Sun of Sicily is amazing! Glorious colors, lots of depth and texture, so vibrant and full of life! It is a perfect complement to our collection. The way Leonid captures the light, sun, Sky, architecture, and spirit of the Mediterenean is simply breathtaking. Every room in our house welcomes us with color and joy. Material things rarely make me happy, but these masterpieces absolutely do. Each is transporting and inspiring. Pure joy. Do yours of a favor and buy a few. All our friends are now collectors. It's addictive! Many thanks to the entire Afremov family. Top-notch customer service. You simply can't go wrong and the smallest issue is immediately addressed to ensure your full satisfaction. None better! Dr Lani Kass
