SHIMMERING FOUNTAIN - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

The work's central hush gives Shimmering Fountain a presence that feels less like a scene than a passage between two states of awareness. A pale vertical form descends toward its reflection, creating an axis of light that holds the surrounding darkness in suspension. The effect is serene, yet not passive; the brightness seems to gather an inward force, as though stillness itself were becoming visible.

Above this axis, rounded forms unfold in a measured rhythm, suggesting an imagined place where growth, weather, and memory have lost their ordinary boundaries. Their closeness creates a sense of gathering without specifying what is gathered - perhaps shelter, perhaps the echo of a distant presence. The surrounding blues and violets deepen that uncertainty, allowing the scene to remain lucid while resisting a single explanation.

Across the lower half, the reflected bands seem to slow time rather than merely return the forms above them. Small pale shapes near the lower edge introduce a delicate interruption, a reminder that even this dreamlike order contains traces of movement and departure. What remains is an atmosphere of suspended arrival, balanced between revelation and retreat.
