SHATTERED LANTERN explores a dimly lit scene with haunting seasonal motifs, outlined by sharp light edges, formed with dense chromatic relief through layered palette knife textures and sculptural strokes.

At the heart of a darkness that feels gathered and watchful, Shattered Lantern 3 offers a vision of shelter that is neither secure nor permanent. The lantern’s concentrated glow seems to hold back the surrounding obscurity, yet the clustered forms pressing close around it suggest how quickly illumination can become enclosed. Its warmth carries the charge of a moment found rather than a world made safe.
The central light gives the scene an inward rhythm, drawing attention toward what remains visible when everything beyond it recedes. A curved handle rises above the flame like a gesture of continuity, while the deep blue and burgundy darkness keeps that promise uncertain. The work balances welcome with unease, allowing the lantern to feel at once like a guide, a remnant, and a small act of defiance.
Beyond its seasonal associations, the image speaks to the fragile persistence of attention. Warm cream and gold gather at the center, but the cooler surrounding forms do not disappear; they remain present as pressure, memory, or the unknown. What endures here is not certainty, but the decision to keep a light burning within it.
