SHATTERED LANTERN 3 - FRAMED

At the heart of a dark, unsettled world, Shattered Lantern 3 presents illumination as something gathered and guarded rather than freely given. The lantern’s golden center holds its ground while surrounding forms press inward, creating the sense of a small refuge whose warmth is inseparable from the surrounding mystery. Its brightness feels less like a triumphant signal than a steady act of resistance.

The dense field around the lantern refuses to settle into a clear landscape or interior, leaving the light suspended in an almost dreamlike enclosure. Deep blues, purples, burgundies, and reds gather around the gold with an intensity that makes the central glow feel both precious and vulnerable. The curved handle above it suggests readiness for movement, yet the surrounding darkness seems to keep the moment suspended.

What emerges is a meditation on attention: how a single source of warmth can reorganize an uncertain world without dispelling it. The lantern does not erase the surrounding darkness; it gives that darkness a measure, revealing its pressure and its depth. In this tension, the work finds its emotional force - not in escape, but in the decision to keep a light alive within conditions that might otherwise overwhelm it.
