SEAGULLS PERCH - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between open water and the steadiness of shore, Seagulls Perch holds a moment of watchful suspension. The bird faces the distance from its weathered post, neither departing nor fully settling, as though the coast has offered it a temporary station. Bright daylight gives this pause a clear, untroubled presence without making it feel simple.

The seashell beside the post turns that stillness inward. Its spiral suggests time gathered into a small, tangible form, while the bird remains oriented toward what lies beyond the horizon. Together, they create a tension between return and departure - the familiar edge of land and the persistent pull of the sea.

White bands of water move across the lower scene, but the seagull remains composed above them. That contrast makes its quiet alertness feel less like isolation than attentive belonging, a readiness shaped by tides, weather, and the changing boundary between solid ground and open sky.

The work leaves room for the viewer to linger in that interval before motion resumes. Its calm is not empty; it carries the sense of a world briefly held in balance, where a passing shorebird, an old post, and a spiral shell share the same clear breath of coast.
