Across an impossible meeting of sky and sea, Sandsea Whale turns weightlessness into a form of freedom. The great body moves diagonally through the scene, suspended between the cool expanse below and a horizon burning with distant light. Its raised tail gives the passage a sense of continuation, as though the creature is crossing not a landscape but the boundary between elements.
The work’s dreamlike force comes from this refusal of ordinary scale. The whale seems both immense and unmoored, carrying the authority of the ocean into a realm of open air. Beneath it, dark bands of blue and reflected warmth suggest depth without securing it, leaving the animal poised in a moment that feels majestic yet strangely vulnerable.
That tension deepens in the contrast between the pale back and shadowed underside, where illumination becomes something more than atmosphere. It hints at a divided experience - the visible ease of drifting and the hidden effort required to remain aloft. Around the figure, sweeping clouds and restless water hold the scene in a state of charged suspension, neither arrival nor departure.
