ROOTBOUND SKY CITY - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between urban ambition and older forms of belonging, Rootbound Sky City proposes a world in which the city is not separate from nature but held within its reach. The immense tree does not stand as a distant emblem; its branching presence enters the skyline, making habitation feel connected to something patient, sheltering, and larger than human plans. A warm opening in the clouds gives this relationship an almost visionary force, as though the city has been gathered beneath a living source of renewal.

The roots spread through the built environment with the logic of bridges, corridors, and shared support. Their glowing lines suggest not conquest but attachment - a network that binds separate lives without erasing their differences. The closely gathered buildings below seem less like isolated monuments than a community sustained by unseen continuities, where growth may take forms both architectural and organic.

Against the deep surrounding blues and violets, the central radiance carries a sense of emergence. It does not resolve the tension between the darkened sky and the illuminated city; instead, it allows both conditions to remain present. The work therefore feels dramatic without becoming ominous, holding open the possibility that uncertainty can also be the atmosphere in which new forms of care appear.

There is a gentle strangeness in the suggestion of beings moving through this living structure, as if daily life has adapted to a world where the boundary between shelter and landscape has dissolved. What remains is a vision of belonging as something grown through connection - expansive, luminous, and quietly protected by the roots beneath it.
