A raven poised between stillness and departure gives Rising Shape its charged direction, turning the bird’s diagonal stance into a study of contained force. The pointed beak reaches beyond the immediate field, while the dark body gathers weight behind it, as though thought itself were leaning toward an unseen consequence. Its presence feels deliberate rather than naturalistic - less a bird at rest than a figure holding a moment open.
The small glint near the eye sharpens this impression of alertness. Around the bird, fractured blocks of turquoise, violet, pink, and yellow create no stable setting, but they do suggest an unsettled world pressing against its composure. The contrast allows the raven to appear both native to the disorder and momentarily separate from it, carrying an ambiguity that resists a single reading.
The folded wing and extended tail draw the gaze along a rising diagonal, giving the image a sense of movement that never fully resolves into flight. That suspended energy makes the work feel less concerned with escape than with readiness - the instant when instinct, judgment, and motion gather before any of them prevails.
