RISING ILLUSION - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Between cloud and horizon, Rising Illusion proposes architecture as a passage rather than a destination. Its central ascent seems to gather momentum from forms that refuse ordinary weight, opening a space where structure and uncertainty can coexist. The work feels less like a building than a suspended thought - monumental in scale, yet released from the obligations of gravity.

The overlapping platforms suggest stages of arrival, though none offers a final resting point. Their measured geometry gives the ascent a sense of purpose, while the surrounding outlines extend beyond what can be securely held. This tension makes the upward movement feel provisional, as if each apparent achievement were already becoming the beginning of another.

Behind the structure, the luminous sky does not simply illuminate it; it softens the boundary between constructed order and the unknown. The cloud-filled atmosphere lends the scene a dreamlike breadth, while the distant horizon keeps the composition connected to a world that remains just beyond reach. Warm amber light turns this distance into something contemplative rather than forbidding.

A long angular plane reaching toward the lower left introduces a counterforce to the vertical rise, drawing the imagined journey back through depth and perspective. In that pull between ascent and return, the work holds open a more personal reading: progress may be less a straight climb than an ongoing negotiation between what we build, what we envision, and what remains suspended ahead.
