Against an unsettled horizon, Rising Distance turns the landscape into a study of pressure and release. The darkened sky seems to gather above a narrow opening where orange light persists, suggesting not a simple sunset but a difficult passage between concealment and arrival. Its drama lies in the tension between what closes in and what remains possible.
The brightest region sits low and near the center, refusing to overwhelm the surrounding darkness. That restrained radiance gives the scene an inward gravity, as though distance is measured less by space than by the effort required to move toward clarity. The pale sweep across the middle offers direction without promising resolution.
At the lower left, several pointed silhouettes interrupt the open ground. They lend the horizon a watchful quality, though their presence remains deliberately unreadable - perhaps markers, perhaps remnants of a world reduced to outline beneath the gathering weather. This uncertainty keeps the scene suspended between landscape and inward state.
Above, the cloud masses carry an almost architectural weight, while the thin warmth beneath them preserves a sense of endurance. The work does not dissolve its darkness into comfort; instead, it allows illumination to appear as something partial, hard-won, and still vulnerable. What remains is an expansive moment held between foreboding and emergence.
