At the edge of a darkened horizon, Reflection on Black Ice treats reflection as a second, less certain form of presence. The solitary seabird appears held between two conditions - the immediate world and its wavering counterpart - while the surrounding stillness gives that division unusual weight. Its poised profile suggests neither departure nor arrival, but a pause in which identity seems briefly doubled.
The bird’s downward echo is not an exact twin; it lengthens and loosens beneath the figure, as though the water were remembering rather than repeating. That difference brings a quiet tension to the scene. What appears stable above becomes vulnerable below, and the work’s calm begins to feel less like an ending than a moment of attentive suspension.
Beyond the cool darkness, a band of amber light breaks across the water in scattered intervals. It does not dispel the surrounding blue so much as enter into conversation with it, allowing warmth and solitude to remain together. The image holds this balance without resolving it, leaving the horizon as a threshold between recognition and disappearance.
