The magical colors of Leonid Afremov’s autumn paintings always make a special impression on us, but in this canvas, in addition to the typical autumn colors –

we find an unusual one, not only for this time of year but for nature in general – violet. It is in this color that the artist depicted the pavement in the autumn park, along which walks a man– his silhouette is seen in the distance – and a woman – her orange coat looks harmonious against the background of autumn foliage. The man is dressed more inconspicuously. And it is rather difficult to understand what kind of clothes are on him – he is at a rather long distance from us. The figures of people can be likened to two ships sailing along an autumn stream – the artist depicted the glittering surface of the pavement strewn with autumn leaves so that it seems that the tiles in front of us are a real river or a stream. The drenched leaves have acquired a very strange shade – purple. Reflecting on why the artist chose this particular color for the image of foliage, we can assume that in this way he wanted to emphasize that the leaves, although they have been laying for a rather short period of time, have already fairly decayed under the intense autumn rains, which is not the case of the leaves that are still on the trees – in spite of their yellowness, it seems that they hold on quite strong and will not fly off at the first whiff of the wind.
