RAIN GARDEN PAUSE - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

Suspended between weather and color, Rain Garden Pause turns a brief encounter with a dragonfly into a meditation on attention after disturbance. The insect does not seem to flee the rain; it occupies its center, poised and alert, as if stillness has become a form of shelter. Its broad wings hold the moment open, giving the scene an unusual sense of duration.

Water droplets catch the light across the wings, suggesting not fragility alone but a heightened awareness of the world. Each glint feels like a small registration of what has just passed - rain, motion, perhaps the restless energy of the garden itself. The dragonfly’s pause is therefore not empty; it carries the tension of movement held in reserve.

Around it, saturated violet, turquoise, magenta, and orange forms gather into an atmosphere that feels lush without becoming peaceful. The dark setting presses inward while vivid accents keep breaking through, creating the impression of nature seen at its most electrically awake. The central figure becomes a threshold between concealment and revelation.

The downward angle of the body lends the image a subtle direction, as though the creature has chosen its next path but has not yet taken it. That suspended decision gives the work its emotional charge: a fleeting interval in which rain, light, and instinct briefly belong to the same silence.
