PUSHED SURFACE presents bold color blocks stretching across the surface, layered with textured ridges and scraped transitions, rendered at an exaggerated scale that fills the canvas.
Thick palette knife strokes build ridges, edges, and layered surfaces that give the paint a sculptural quality.
The composition balances raw energy with controlled structure.

Across its bands of saturated color, Pushed Surface turns abstract movement into a study of pressure, interruption, and release. The work feels less like a fixed arrangement than a moment held in suspension, where each horizontal passage presses against the next without fully settling. Its vivid energy is disciplined by the insistence of the layered structure, giving intensity a measured rhythm.
Magenta and purple gather above warmer yellow and orange passages, creating a shift that suggests heat moving through a compressed field. The transitions are not seamless; they break, catch, and reassert themselves, allowing the composition to feel both constructed and instinctive. Nothing resolves into a recognizable scene, yet the work carries the charged presence of something continually becoming.
In the lower bands, blue, teal, violet, and pink extend that movement into a cooler register without diminishing its force. Small shadows beneath raised edges deepen the sense of unequal weight, as though the image records successive acts of resistance. The result is an abstraction with a distinctly physical temperament - bold, immediate, and alert to the tension between order and overflow.
