PIGEONS IN SUNLIGHT - Oil Painting On Canvas By Leonid Afremov

A close gathering under uncompromising daylight gives Pigeons in Sunlight its distinctive tension, where companionship feels present but not entirely settled. The birds lean into one another along a diagonal rise, as though drawn together by the narrowness of the ledge and the warmth around them. Their proximity suggests a shared pause rather than a posed unity, attentive to the world beyond the frame.

The dark pigeon in the foreground changes the rhythm of the group. Its blue-violet coloring carries a note of reserve among the lighter birds, yet it remains fully within their circle. Behind them, weathered walls and block-like forms lend the scene an older, inhabited atmosphere, while the sharp bands of shadow make the briefness of the sunlight impossible to ignore.

What lingers is the balance between exposure and shelter. Pale birds catch the brightness; their small feet and beaks introduce a delicate, almost vulnerable detail against the firm geometry of the rooftop. The gathering can be read as ordinary city life, but the stillness gives it another register - a moment in which difference does not dissolve, yet does not prevent nearness.
