about this painting:

Perfection of Practice

The beauty of the ballet

Look at this amazing painting of the master Leonid Afremov, in which he depicted perhaps the most difficult motion in the ballet – a woman standing with her hands and one leg hauled backwards and bending her back in an elegant semicircle resembling an umbrella stretched all her body forward, this position makes the painting especially elegant. Her body is so plastic that allows her to bend it into the most unthinkable forms. By all indicators it is clear that she is a professional dancer. Not only by her physical form but also by the way she is dressed –professional clothes typical for ballerinas. They allow her bending her body without any constraints, she does not feel her costume at all; it seems to be sticking to her body becoming one with it. In the background, the artist painted a reflection of the ballerina, her double, and maybe even an opponent, because she is as flexible as our character. She is its complete likeness. If you take a gaze, you can see that she is even dressed like her –

she is wearing the same black costume as our heroine. For the background, the artist used a mixture of orange and brown. And our heroine on this golden background looks quite harmoniously. Her black clothes and a light body are very well absorbed in these colors. She seems to float in them and her double always follows her. It looks like it will always be with her no matter what she does and no matter where she dances.

The truly Russian art

It is in Russia that the ballet reaches its peak, becoming one of a brand identity of the country and Russian art. Here are the three most interesting facts about Russian ballet:

  1. The first ballet troupe of national importance appeared in Russia in the first half of the 18th century. It was the Imperial Ballet of St. Petersburg. At the same time, the concept of performances began to change, from mythological and dramatic stories to romantic tales.
  2. Russian diplomats and merchants, going abroad, visited theaters and willingly went to ballet performances because there they did not find difficulty in understanding foreign speech.
  3. From the first half of the 18th century ballet in Russia began being engrained by choreographers and dance teachers from Italy and France. Possessing rich dance folklore, Russia proved to be a very fertile ground for the development of the ballet theater. Learning the ropes brought by foreigners, the Russians, in turn, introduced their own intonations into the foreign dance.

We hope that this painting will catch the fancy of not only the lovers of such an art form as ballet but also of the admirers of art in general. Let its bright and warm colors fill your home with comfort and warmth.
